ISO 14001 is a systematic approach to dealing with the environmental aspects of an organization. The overall aim of ISO 14001 is to support environmental protection and prevention of pollution in balancewith socio-economic needs. This standard provides a framework which can be followed by an organization to set up an effective environmental management system. It can be used by any organization regardless of its activity or sector. Using ISO 14001:2004 can provide assurance to company management and employees as well as external stakeholders that environmental impacts are being measured and improved. Reduction of waste management cost, saving in energy and material consumption, improved corporate image among the society are main benefits of using ISO 14001.
The revision of ISO 14001-2015 is available now as a DIS(Draft International Standard). The main changes are a greater focus on risk management and an emphasis on improving environmental performance rather than the management system itself.
